A JAPANESE PASTIME...

The very first Old Kennels ‘summer school’.
A trio of the most respected tutors in their fields will guide you through producing your very own book from cover to cover.

You will take home a true heirloom piece, a personal ‘limited edition’ of haikus and illustrative plates, bound in your own handmade paper into a personal and unique artists book.

Classes may be booked individually as priced or attend the full week

Paper from Plant Fibres

Tutor; Jeff Lowe

An opportunity to process plant material you have collected or found locally to produce fibres for papermaking. You will learn the techniques to determine colour, tone and
texture of your paper and explore methods of making paper pieces using free forming, box casting and mould and deckle work as well as incorporating green plant fibres into cotton lint and wood pulp based papers.

We will explore using pulps for ‘pulp painting’ and then conclude our three day journey by making lightly textured papers suitable for artist use, such as for watercolour, printmaking book binding and calligraphy.

Creative Writing

THE OPENING LOTUS

Tutor; Elizabeth Rapp (web)

Whether you are an experienced writer, or have never put pen to paper, all comers are welcome.

Elizabeth is a well published writer and experienced teacher, who delights in helping people discover what riches are tucked away inside their own life experience which can be expressed in writing.

The focus of this day, will be to create a series of Haiku, maybe to put into your hand bound book and keep.

Haiku is the world's shortest poetic form, in just three lines, they often express profound truths in the simplest of natural images, a single thought, feeling or idea.

Elizabeth will share Renga as well as Haiku, and a little history of these fascinating Japanese courtly pastimes.

A relaxing day of complete enjoyment and discovery.
