Kumihimo the gentle art of Japanese Braidmaking this introductory course for beginners and improvers, covers the basic techniques required. the from the well published author - Jacqui Carey. The rhythmic movements of Kumihimo make the craft an aesthetic activity and the finished braids can be the perfect compliment to any textile craft. Students will be able to produce a range of samples and optional finished items. The course will cover various aspects of the subject including the following-

1) Equipment - what, why and how
2) Warp threads- what, why and how
3) Working techniques - how to braid and
improve ones style
4) Braiding Sequences -a variety of different
structured braids and numerous patterns
5) Finishing techniques - how to finish and tassel

Requirements list

*Marudai and 8 bobbins
*Counterbalance weight
*Chopstick
*S-hook
*Warping post
Scissors
Needles
Note pad and pencil
Small paper labels (optional)
Plenty of threads in a variety of colours - any thread type or thickness will work. (Chunky wools, cotton perle, fine silk, synthetics, fancy fibres, etc., etc....why not try the charity shops for remnant balls etc.). Bring a variety of colours. Tutor will also have traditional threads available for purchase and there will be as much rug wool as you would like to use at no charge.

Comfortable footstool or cushion to sit on if you do not want to sit on a chair.

Wear comfortable clothing - trousers or a cello playing skirt!
