Willow Basket Making - A French Cheese Basket
Tutor;
Mary Melling website
You will make a cheese basket, using a
traditional French method, by ‘scalloming’ to attach the side
stakes. An ideal taster day for a complete beginner or chance to learn a new
basket making technique. You will not need any specialist equipment and willow
is provided. To really personalise your project, if you have thin willow from
your own garden that you would like to use, cut this two weeks before the
class and bring it along and it may be possible to incorporate it in your
basket.
REQUIREMENTS LIST
Sharp
secateurs
Small very sharp knife (or craft knife)
Ruler
Bodkin (if you have one)
All of the above will be available for loan if you do not have any particular item, so please don’t buy anything specially.
Comfortable
footstool or cushion to sit on if you do not
want
to sit on a chair.

Simply scallom...

weave...

and hey presto...BASKET!

Oh,
and five minutes to spare at the end to make a
cute new friend to share your cheese with!
The great news is, Mary has agreed to come back and teach a two day class in June to make an Irish Kisheen style basket and November to make Christmas decorations from the hedgerow!
